A house is more than just a roof over one's head.
While the majority of the world's population lives in some form of dwelling, roughly half of the world's population does not currently have access to adequate housing that is guaranteed to them under international human rights law.
According to international human rights law, in order for housing to be adequate it must provide more than just four walls and a roof over one's head.
COHRE has produced a number of publications providing essential and accessible information on areas that COHRE believes are key in the struggle for the right to adequate housing and about which you can learn more in this section of the website:
- forced evictions
- security of tenure
- access to land
- water and sanitation
- women and housing rights
- litigation and legal advocacy
- restitution and return
- the impact of mega events on housing rights
