Housing rights are violated in all parts of the world and housing rights activists around the world struggle against housing rights violations on a daily basis.

There are many ways to take action to defend housing rights. The first step is to identify clearly what your rights are.  In many cases, the next step is to find a local organisation working to defend housing rights in your area, and work together with them.

Housing rights are enshrined in a number of international and regional human rights treaties that many countries have signed on to – obliging them to respect, protect and fulfil those rights.

In this section of our website, you will be able to find specific information regarding those rights and the legal sources of the right to adequate housing.

You will also find a list of community-based organisations you can contact in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe, who are often the most effective voices calling for improvements in the housing rights situations facing the most vulnerable members of their communities.

Finally, you will find information on how you can access training on housing rights that can be used to further advocacy for housing rights in your community.
