Promoting and protecting the housing rights of everyone, everywhere.

COHRE's overall mission is to promote and protect the housing rights of everyone, everywhere.

To achieve this, COHRE has developed a varied work programme guided by international human rights law, and while it maintains an international scope, COHRE concentrates its work on several focus countries.

In these countries, COHRE's work involves housing rights training and education; research and publications; monitoring, documenting and preventing forced evictions; undertaking fact-finding missions; participation and advocacy within the United Nations and regional human rights systems; and providing legal advocacy and advice to communities and organisations involved in housing rights campaigns.

A significant proportion of this work on housing rights and forced evictions is carried out by the organisation's regional programmes, based in Africa, Asia and Latin America. COHRE also has strong relations with local housing rights partners in North America, Europe and the Middle East - and monitors the housing rights situations in those regions.

COHRE combines its international experience and use of the international human rights legal framework with its presence on the ground in every region to strengthen local housing rights groups – especially those that serve community-based organizations among the poor populations of key focus countries.
