Mega-Events and Housing Rights Report
New report published in Chinese and English
5 August 2008: COHRE today released a new report, “Mega-Events and Housing Rights”, in English and Chinese.
The paper was originally published in English as Chapter 2 of COHRE’s "Fair Play for Housing Rights: Mega-Events, Olympic Games and Housing Rights" (2007).
The paper includes sections on:
- Cultural, political and sporting mega-events
- International legal obligations relating to housing rights and evictions; and
- Best practices in bidding and planning mega-events.
It is hoped that the paper will be of interest to those inside and outside China on the eve of the 2008 Olympic games, but into the future, with a number of other political mega-events due to take place in China in coming months and years, such as the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.
