UN Special Rapporteur delivers report on the Right to Adequate Housing and the International Financial Crisis



9 March 2009: The first report prepared for the Human Rights Council by the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Ms Raquel Rolnik, entitled "Promotion and Protection of all Human Rights, Civil, Political, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, including the Right to Development" was released today. Ms Rolnik took up her position as Special Rapporteur on 1 May 2008.

 

The report's Summary states: "In view of the current crisis in the housing and financial sector, the Special Rapporteur decided to devote this thematic report to the consequences of certain economic, financial and housing policies and approaches that have seriously impacted on the right to adequate housing in the past decades and have contributed to the present crisis".
