The Chixoy Dam Reparations Campaign

COHRE is part of the Chixoy Dam Reparations Campaign, which seeks reparations for the Mayan communities displaced to make way for the Chixoy hydroelectric dam in Guatemala. The dam's construction, financed and supervised by the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, resulted in the displacement of scores of Mayan villages, including the forced eviction of the Río Negro community - a forced eviction carried out through a series of brutal massacres.
