COHRE Housing Rights Awards

Annual Awards to Violators, Defenders and Protectors of Housing Rights

NB: NOMINATIONS FOR 2008 AWARDS HAVE NOW CLOSED

Each year, COHRE presents its Housing Rights Awards to focus attention on ongoing violations of the human right to housing, commend efforts to respect and protect housing rights, and honour individuals who have shown exemplary commitment to the struggle for housing rights for everyone, everywhere.

The Housing Rights Awards are made up of the following separate awards:
  • one Housing Rights Protector Award, which is presented to a government or other institution that has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to respecting or protecting housing rights

  • one Housing Rights Defender Award, which is presented to an individual who has shown outstanding commitment to the defence of housing rights

  • three Housing Rights Violator Awards, which are presented to governments or other institutions that have committed clear housing rights violations at any time during the previous year, or earlier, in clear contravention of international human rights law and related housing rights standards
You can find out more about these Awards, including the selection criteria used to decide recipients, on the "Nominations and Selection Criteria" page.
